Tyro has partnered with Bakers Delight to provide payment services across the bakery chain's Australian franchise network, covering more than 500 locations.

The agreement gives Bakers Delight franchisees access to Tyro's in-store payment system, local support and same-day settlement through a Tyro Transaction Account. Bakers Delight is also developing a custom integration to connect Tyro payments with its Microsoft Dynamics 365 retail system.

Franchise rollout

Founded in Melbourne and still family-owned, Bakers Delight has grown from a single bakery into one of Australia's largest bakery franchise groups. The new arrangement links a well-known consumer brand with a payments provider that serves more than 76,000 merchants across Australia.

For franchise operators, payment systems are central to daily store operations and customer transactions. Reconciliation, cash flow management, and end-of-day balancing can all be affected by how closely payments are integrated with retail software.

As a result, integrated payments have become a growing focus for chains seeking to standardise operations across large networks. At Bakers Delight, the planned link to Microsoft Dynamics 365 is intended to reduce manual work for franchisees and give the head office a clearer view of payment activity across the network.

Bakers Delight Chief Technology Officer Keng Ng said some franchisees had already been using Tyro for several years before the broader partnership was agreed.

"Our franchisees who have been with Tyro for a number of years value its reliability, excellent support, and highly competitive costs," said Keng Ng, Chief Technology Officer, Bakers Delight.

He said the partnership aligned with the group's broader technology plans for the franchise network.

"As we continue to invest in solutions that help our network operate more efficiently, partnering with Tyro was a natural fit," said Ng.

Integration plans

The rollout is being introduced in stages across Bakers Delight's Australian stores. The first phase focuses on building the integration and onboarding franchisees, before wider availability across the network.

Tyro said existing Bakers Delight franchisees using its system had responded positively, particularly to its local support and settlement features. The payments provider has been seeking to deepen its presence in sectors including retail, hospitality, services and healthcare through direct merchant relationships and software integrations.

The Bakers Delight project also reflects how payment providers are increasingly competing on operational features rather than just transaction processing. For multi-site franchise businesses, integration with back-office systems can be a deciding factor when choosing suppliers, especially when store owners want simpler reconciliation and head offices want greater visibility.

Store support

Tyro Chief Growth Officer Jo Moxey said the agreement would help support franchisees at the store level.

"Bakers Delight is a brand many Australians have grown up with, and we're proud to support its franchisees with payments that are fast, reliable, and simple to use," said Jo Moxey, Chief Growth Officer, Tyro.

She said the integration work aimed to reduce the time spent on administration in stores.

"Our technology is designed to make payments the easiest part of doing business. By integrating Tyro EFTPOS into Bakers Delight's retail environment, we're helping franchisees spend more time doing what they do best - serving their customers and communities," said Moxey.

The agreement underscores how established consumer brands are updating their core retail systems to achieve more uniform operations across large franchise networks.
