Australia Post has acquired last-mile delivery orchestration platform Rendr, expanding its same-day delivery reach to almost 90% of Australia's population.

The deal will allow Australia Post to offer same-day and on-demand delivery more widely, with additional delivery windows in the evening and at weekends. Rendr's software connects merchants with delivery partners in real time based on factors including location, speed and service requirements.

The acquisition comes as retailers and eCommerce groups face growing pressure to provide faster, more transparent delivery options. Australia Post is seeking to strengthen its digital systems as online shopping patterns shift and customers demand shorter fulfilment times.

Gary Starr, Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services at Australia Post, said the acquisition would help local businesses respond to larger international rivals and changing consumer expectations.

"This investment is about giving Australian businesses the tools they need to compete with global mega marketplaces, particularly as customers increasingly expect faster delivery options like same-day or even three-hour delivery.

The way Australians shop and receive goods continues to change, and investing in technology like Rendr helps us innovate faster, offer smarter delivery options and build the capabilities we need for long-term success. It's an important step in how we continue to deliver better outcomes for customers and businesses, now and into the future," Starr said.

Platform Role

Rendr was founded in 2020 by Greg Leibowitz and James Fisher to modernise last-mile delivery for Australian retailers. It provides merchants with software and operational tools to manage on-demand services, including same-day and three-hour delivery.

Its customer base includes retailers in Australia and New Zealand such as Chemist Warehouse, Global Retail Brands, Hairhouse and Jaycar Electronics. Those relationships reflect demand among established chains for systems that can manage multiple delivery providers and tighter delivery windows.

Initially, Rendr will continue to operate as a standalone platform, with merchants integrating directly with its system to access same-day and on-demand services. Australia Post plans to integrate the technology into its own sending platforms later, giving existing customers another way to access those services.

The acquisition also forms part of a broader overhaul at Australia Post, which has been investing in newer technology and digital services across its network. It has been looking for ways to make its parcel and eCommerce operations more responsive as letter volumes decline and parcels become a more central part of the business.

Greg Leibowitz, co-founder of Rendr, said the business was created to solve a structural problem in retail logistics.

"The complexity of delivery infrastructure has been a barrier for retailers trying to compete on fulfilment. We built Rendr to simplify that complexity entirely, giving merchants an intelligent layer that orchestrates, optimises and scales with their business. Joining Australia Post means we can bring that capability to a far greater share of Australian retail," Leibowitz said.

Retail Pressure

For retailers, last-mile delivery has become a more important point of competition as shoppers grow accustomed to faster fulfilment from large marketplaces and specialist delivery services. That has increased demand for software that can quickly match orders to carriers while accounting for timing, geography and service needs.

Australia Post's national network gives it broad reach, and Rendr adds another tool for coordinating time-sensitive deliveries outside traditional postal schedules. Evening and weekend delivery windows may be particularly relevant for urban customers and merchants selling higher-frequency consumer goods.

James Fisher, co-founder of Rendr, described the transaction as a combination of software and national scale.

"From day one, we've focused on building technology that makes delivery smarter, more efficient and more adaptable to changing customer expectations. Australia Post brings an unmatched network and reach, and together we have an opportunity to redefine the delivery experience for both senders and receivers in Australia," Fisher said.
