Zeller supports regional Aussie businesses with grants & film
Australian fintech Zeller is launching a new initiative to bolster innovation among small businesses in regional Australia. The company plans to offer grants totalling AUD $10,000 annually to support these enterprises by providing them with necessary technology, resources, and funding to navigate the challenges of a shifting economic environment.
This announcement comes alongside the premiere of "Welcome to Inglewood," a short film by Zeller that highlights the resilience and determination of small business owners in the rural town of Inglewood, located in Victoria's Loddon Shire. Through the film, viewers gain insight into the myriad of challenges that these entrepreneurs face, including reduced foot traffic, deteriorating infrastructure, and increasingly adverse weather conditions.
Despite these obstacles, Inglewood's business community has shown a remarkable capacity for adaptation and perseverance. The film documents stories of traditional brick-and-mortar shops transitioning to eCommerce and adopting Zeller's innovative Tap to Pay solution to address connectivity issues. These efforts underscore the steadfastness of Inglewood's business leaders in their mission to preserve the town's unique charm and vitality.
Joshua McNicol, Director of Growth at Zeller, remarked, "Zeller recognises small businesses as the lifeblood of regional economies, driving innovation, fostering community, and fuelling growth. However, the challenges faced by regional businesses are unique and often stem from factors beyond their control, such as tourism, traffic, weather, and access to financial services or technology. Our commitment is to equip business owners with the solutions they need to thrive, whether through facilitating payments, improving their cash flow, or managing their finances. Additionally, through Zeller's new Regional Small Business Grant, we aim to provide tangible support to these entrepreneurs so they can unleash their full potential and contribute even more to their local communities."
Small businesses in Australia's rural towns are critical to the nation's economy, contributing approximately 40% of the total economic output and serving as a stabilising force. Inglewood, once a bustling centre during the gold rush of the mid-19th century, exemplifies the resilience required in today's more challenging economic environment.
According to Wendy Murphy, Loddon Shire Councillor for the Inglewood Ward, "Zeller has provided a remarkable platform with this film, enabling the business owners of Inglewood to share their genuine, heartfelt stories. The film beautifully captures the essence of our small business community, illustrating their generosity, resilience, and unwavering dedication. It underscores the profound impact that small businesses have on the fabric of Australian society, portraying a narrative not just of commerce, but of family, community, and loyalty."
Catherine Norman, co-owner of Fusspots Antique Shop, echoed this sentiment, stating, "As a resident of almost twenty years and a small business owner of eighteen years here in Inglewood, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power that community collaboration and innovation can bring. Zeller's commitment to a small regional town like ours holds immense long-term benefits in revitalising our economy and elevating our town's allure as a tourist destination. This film gives me hope that our community will be able to forge a sustainable future for Inglewood, ensuring its ongoing prosperity."
