WiseTech to acquire ImpexDocs to boost CargoWise docs
WiseTech Global has agreed to buy ImpexDocs, an Australian developer of global trade management software, expanding WiseTech's trade documentation and contract management capabilities for its CargoWise platform.
ImpexDocs is headquartered in Sydney and is being acquired from Acme Trade Group. The transaction is subject to conditions precedent, including regulatory approval.
WiseTech develops logistics execution software used by freight forwarders, logistics providers and other supply chain operators. Its core product, CargoWise, includes modules covering operational workflow and compliance tasks in international freight movements.
Trade documentation
ImpexDocs provides software that centralises and digitises international trade workflows. Its products cover steps from sales and purchase orders through to shipping and compliance documentation, and provide status information on orders, shipments and contracts.
WiseTech plans to integrate ImpexDocs into its compliance, trade and logistics offerings. ImpexDocs customers will continue to access the solutions after completion, and the business will remain under the leadership of founder and chief executive Manish Desai.
The acquisition adds a suite aimed at exporters and trade process owners, including tools to manage document flows among shippers, freight forwarders, carriers and border agencies. It also adds contract management features, an area of growing focus as companies monitor order changes, partial shipments and exceptions across multiple markets.
WiseTech has made repeated acquisitions in recent years to broaden CargoWise and add local compliance and workflow software in different jurisdictions. The ImpexDocs deal follows that approach, adding a product with customers in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
Customer base
ImpexDocs was established in 2003 by Desai and counts clients across Australia, New Zealand and the US. WiseTech reports it serves more than 17,000 logistics companies across 181 countries, including 45 of the top 50 global third-party logistics providers and all 25 of the largest global freight forwarders.
Logistics software vendors have increased their focus on documentation and trade compliance as supply chains digitise and regulators expand reporting requirements. Many operators still manage parts of the process with email, spreadsheets and scanned documents, which can create duplication and delays when data must be re-entered for different parties or systems.
Global trade management software typically sits alongside transport and warehouse systems. It covers tasks such as document preparation, coordination of shipping paperwork and management of compliance records. Contract status and shipment milestones can also be part of the workflow, particularly for exporters and importers tracking multiple orders and suppliers.
WiseTech framed the ImpexDocs purchase as part of its push into digital documentation. Chief execution officer Vlad Bilanovsky linked the deal to CargoWise product development plans and the company's broader ecosystem strategy.
"The acquisition of ImpexDocs brings proven GTM capability to WiseTech's solutions as well as a team of domain experts in global trade execution and compliance. This will help accelerate ongoing product development within digital documentation - one of our six priorities to extend the CargoWise ecosystem," said Vlad Bilanovsky, Chief Execution Officer, WiseTech Global.
For ImpexDocs, the deal places the product suite within a larger global software group with an established customer network in freight forwarding and third-party logistics. Desai said the combination expands ImpexDocs' addressable market and creates new opportunities for staff.
"We are excited about the opportunities enabled by joining WiseTech as the global reach and extensive resources will help bring ImpexDocs' solution to a much larger potential market, while opening new career opportunities for our team members," said Manish Desai.
ImpexDocs will continue to operate under its current leadership as the acquisition moves through approvals and the companies determine how the functionality will fit within WiseTech's compliance, trade and logistics portfolio.
