Samsung has unveiled its 2027 Odyssey gaming monitor range, including new OLED models and a monitor with a claimed 1,100Hz refresh rate.

The announcement centres on four products: the 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9, the 42-inch Odyssey OLED G7, the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 and the 27-inch Odyssey G6. Samsung also plans to extend HDR10+ GAMING support to more than 20 titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

The new range shows how monitor makers are targeting different parts of the gaming market with more specialised hardware. Rather than relying on a single flagship design, Samsung has split the line-up between ultra-wide displays, large-format 16:9 screens and high-refresh models aimed at competitive players.

The Odyssey OLED G9 is Samsung's first 49-inch DQHD gaming monitor with a 360Hz refresh rate. It has a 5120 x 1440 resolution and a 0.03ms grey-to-grey response time.

It also supports Dual Mode, allowing users to run the screen at DQHD and 360Hz or switch to 2560 x 720 at up to 720Hz. That approach reflects a wider trend in gaming displays, with manufacturers offering variable operating modes so players can prioritise either image detail or frame speed depending on the title.

The Odyssey OLED G7 takes a different approach. Samsung describes it as its first 42-inch 16:9 curved OLED gaming monitor, combining a 1000R curve with 4K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms response time.

Large-screen gaming monitors have become a more active segment as buyers look for displays that can also handle console play, streaming and general entertainment. A 42-inch curved OLED panel puts the G7 close to territory traditionally occupied by premium televisions while retaining a monitor-style feature set.

The 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 sits between those two products in both size and positioning. It offers UHD resolution at up to 360Hz and can switch to QHD at 520Hz and FHD at 680Hz through what Samsung calls Triple Mode.

Alongside its speed and resolution options, the G8 includes a USB-C port with 98W power delivery, KVM support, one DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, two HDMI ports and a USB hub. Those additions suggest Samsung is also targeting users who want one display for both gaming systems and work devices on the same desk.

The G8 also includes Samsung's glare reduction film, VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 600, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support. In the current monitor market, these specifications often help differentiate premium products, where panel quality and connectivity matter almost as much as refresh rate.

Competitive focus

The Odyssey G6 is aimed more directly at esports and first-person shooter players. Samsung says the 27-inch monitor can run at up to 1,100Hz in HD and up to 600Hz in QHD through Dual Mode, using a Fast IPS panel and a 1ms response time.

If delivered as stated in commercial shipping products, that refresh rate would place the G6 among the fastest monitors yet announced for mainstream gaming use. The push beyond 500Hz reflects growing interest in ultra-high-refresh displays among competitive players, even though the benefits depend heavily on the game engine, graphics hardware and system latency.

Samsung also used the launch to outline a broader content strategy. It is working to expand HDR10+ GAMING support across more than 20 AAA titles by the first half of 2027, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 among the named games.

That matters because monitor makers and game publishers have long faced a coordination problem around display standards. Advanced HDR formats, variable refresh technologies and specialised 3D features only gain traction when content developers, display manufacturers and chip suppliers support the same ecosystem.

Samsung also referred to expanded support for Odyssey 3D titles, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Cronos: The New Dawn, through direct collaboration with game studios. Those titles are intended to demonstrate added depth and spatial perspective on compatible displays.

Australian pricing and local availability have not been announced. Timing will vary by market.

"Players come to Gamescom to discover what is next, try new games, and experience the technology they need to stay focused and compete at their best," said Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

"With new form factors, higher refresh rates, and advanced display technologies, the 2027 Odyssey lineup gives players more choice across competitive play, cinematic games, and multi-purpose setups," Lee said.
