Ofload unveils DataVerse to optimise freight emissions

Fri, 11th Oct 2024

Ofload has introduced DataVerse, a new AI-enabled platform designed to measure and optimise carbon emissions and freight performance across entire Australian logistics networks.

The platform presents a unique opportunity for businesses to aggregate and analyse freight data across all providers and routes. Geoffroy Henry, CEO of Ofload, stated: "We are proud to move a wide variety of freight profiles across Australia, which our customers track on our Carbon Analytics Platform and Performance Analysis tools. But this is not enough - businesses needed a way to see data throughout their entire logistics networks – so DataVerse was born."

He also highlighted the broader implications of the new platform: "This is a major leap towards better emissions tracking, industry accountability, and ultimately tackling carbon, waste and inefficiencies in supply chains."

DataVerse is currently in its beta phase and is being piloted in partnership with Remedy Drinks, a leading health drink producer, with an anticipated full rollout in the first quarter of calendar year 2025.

DataVerse's capabilities include aggregating previously siloed data from various sources, including those not directly connected to Ofload, to achieve comprehensive visibility over freight movements. The platform integrates with Ofload's existing Carbon Analytics Platform (CAP) and Performance Analysis tools to provide insights into both emissions and supply chain efficiency.

The CAP, launched earlier this year, offers detailed analysis of road logistics emissions, including total CO2 emissions generated and average emissions per kilometre. All major shippers using Ofload, such as Noumi, Metcash, and Kimberley Clark, have adopted the carbon reporting measures, with over 22 million kilometres of goods tracked for carbon output.

The Australian Government's commitment to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 highlights the urgency of decarbonising the logistics industry. Articulated trucks, accounting for a small percentage of vehicles, significantly contribute to vehicle emissions, thus making tools like DataVerse crucial for businesses aiming to identify and reduce carbon emissions and waste through enhanced freight management.

Chris McInnes, CTO of Ofload, commented on the implications of the platform for industry accountability: "DataVerse enables more accountability and full transparency for the logistics industry. It's a brave step for Ofload to take, but the uses for this technology are too important not to. Since inception, our mission has been to eliminate waste through the supply chain - and that means across everything from road to rail and coastal."

DataVerse aims to democratise access to logistics insights, enabling small and medium-sized businesses to compete with large multinational companies by providing tools typically only available to those with significant in-house resources.

With impending regulatory requirements, such as the climate-related Treasury Laws Amendment Bill 2024, businesses will need to adhere to mandated emissions reporting, including Scope 3 emissions. Ofload's DataVerse offers solutions that not only meet but exceed these government reporting standards, assisting businesses in measuring, identifying, and mitigating the environmental impact of their shipments.

Remedy Drinks, the first customer to pilot DataVerse, anticipates improving its transition to a low-emission supply chain. The adoption of the DataVerse platform is expected to enhance Remedy's ability to monitor and optimise its carbon footprint across its logistics operations, aligning with its sustainability objectives while boosting transparency and efficiency in freight management.
