FIS has launched its Digital One Commercial banking platform in Asia-Pacific, completing the product's global rollout.

The platform is aimed at banks serving business customers ranging from small companies to mid-sized corporates and large enterprises on a single system. It is designed to work with existing core banking systems rather than require banks to replace them.

Its arrival in Asia-Pacific comes as commercial banking technology spending in the region continues to rise. Research firm Celent said corporate banking IT spending in APAC increased by 5.5% in 2025 and by 6.2% in 2026, as banks stepped up investment in client lifecycle management and digital corporate banking platforms.

Many lenders in the region still run separate systems for smaller business clients and larger corporate customers, often split by country. This has added complexity as banks manage different compliance rules, data sovereignty requirements, and growing demand from business customers for faster, more connected digital services.

Regional focus

Digital One Commercial supports real-time, multi-rail payments and can connect with domestic and international payment schemes including PayNow, GIRO, FAST, and SWIFT/ISO. The platform also covers trade finance, foreign exchange, treasury services, and multi-entity liquidity management.

It supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Vietnamese, along with multi-currency and multi-time-zone functions. These features are intended to help banks operate across multiple APAC markets from a single software instance.

The system uses an API-first structure, allowing banks to connect it to accounting software and enterprise resource planning systems. This means treasury and finance teams can access banking services within their own workflow tools rather than switch between internal systems and bank portals.

Single system

FIS said one APAC bank is already using Digital One Commercial across 15 countries on a single instance. The bank serves about 350,000 business customers and more than one million end-users through that deployment.

FIS did not name the institution but said the installation has allowed it to launch products more quickly while avoiding the burden of maintaining separate systems for different countries.

Peter Boyer, Co-President of Banking Solutions at FIS, said the product was built to address a long-standing structural problem in the region.

"APAC's commercial banking landscape is among the most complex in the world, and too many banks are navigating it with separate systems built for individual markets rather than the region. The opportunity is not incremental improvement - it is helping banks unite their commercial banking operations, serve every business segment from a single platform, and unlock growth across the region," Boyer said.

The launch also reflects a wider shift in how banks approach modernisation projects. Rather than replacing large parts of their infrastructure in one move, many institutions are looking for software that can sit alongside existing systems and be introduced in stages.

That approach has become more relevant in APAC, where banks often operate across multiple regulatory jurisdictions and must tailor technology deployments to local rules on risk controls and data handling.

Colin Kerr, Head of Banking and Payments at Celent, said demand for this kind of architecture was growing.

"In APAC, the shift toward platform-based commercial banking is accelerating, driven by the need to unify client experiences and support cross-border services," Kerr said.

"Banks are increasingly prioritising flexible, integration-led architectures that can sit alongside existing cores, making solutions such as Digital One Commercial highly relevant to current transformation agendas," he added.

Digital One Commercial is now available across the US, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific. It is intended for both regional banks expanding into new markets and larger international institutions updating their commercial banking systems.
