Felix mobile battles eco-friendly cost myths, expands into Coles
Tue, 19th Mar 2024

New research from felix mobile reveals that 40% of Australians believe they cannot adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle due to cost pressures. Whilst 83% of Australians maintain that picking eco-friendly products is important when shopping, 88% are of the opinion that it is more expensive to purchase these sustainable items, with 38% asserting it costs up to 25% more.

Amidst the gripes over the expensive nature of sustainable products, felix mobile announces its expansion into Coles supermarkets nationwide. The mobile provider, powered by 100% renewable electricity and certified as carbon neutral, aims to offer customers an affordable and eco-conscious alternative for mobile phone services. Felix mobile plans range from $25 to $40, thereby combining cost-effectiveness with sustainability.

Kelly Beater, Head of felix mobile, stated, "Almost 80 per cent of Australians believe a more environmentally responsible mobile provider costs more, but with felix you can access great value and service that don't cost the earth." With this expansion, the mobile provider is embarking on a mission to render environmentally friendly choices more accessible and pocket-friendly for all Australians.

The study reveals that 21% of Australians aged between 18 to 24 are unaware of how to contribute to environmental conservation in their everyday lives. This contrasts sharply with the 8% of Australians aged 65 and over who share the same sentiment. Additionally, 62% of 18 to 24-year-olds agree that being environmentally responsible is too costly and remains out of their budget.

Regionally speaking, half of Northern Territory residents assert they lead an incredibly eco-aware lifestyle, whereas only 13% of Queenslanders and 6% of Tasmanians make the same claim. It is worth noting though, that 46% of Australians consciously opt for brands that have a positive environmental impact. This percentage increases among females (51%), South Australians (53%), and Tasmanians (61%). Furthermore, 49% of West Australians claim they consume less meat and shop locally to lower waste.

The research also uncovers that when it comes to selecting a mobile phone provider, 11% of 18 to 24 year-olds place environmental friendliness at the top of their priority list. Unfortunately, only 15% of Aussies are aware of the existence of eco-conscious mobile operators, while 59% remain unsure if their current provider fits these criteria.

To reinforce its commitment to the environment, felix mobile has committed to planting a tree for each month a customer uses their services. With over 1.6 million trees already planted globally, felix has set a target of two million trees by the end of 2024. This initiative greatly aids in reforestation efforts, mitigating climate change and boosting biodiversity along with community impacts. Ms. Beater concluded, "By offering affordable, more environmentally responsible mobile plans, we are empowering customers to make a positive impact on the planet one tree at a time."
