FedEx has published its recommended 2026 holiday shipping deadlines for customers in Australia and New Zealand, covering domestic, trans-Tasman and international deliveries ahead of the peak retail season.

The guidance is intended to help consumers and retailers manage orders ahead of major online shopping periods including Click Frenzy, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.

Within Australia, the recommended deadline for shipments to Western Australia and the Northern Territory is 16 December. Interstate Economy and Road Express shipments should be sent by 18 December, while Domestic Priority Services to and within capital cities should be lodged by 21 December.

On the 23 December will be the last date FedEx collects shipments from its stations before Christmas Day.

For trans-Tasman deliveries from Australia to New Zealand, the recommended cut-off for Economy Services is 17 December. Priority Services to New Zealand should be sent by 21 December.

Customers sending to other international destinations face earlier deadlines. Economy Services should be sent by 14 December, while Priority Services should be lodged by 18 December.

The timetable comes as online shopping remains a large part of household spending in Australia. FedEx cited figures from the Australian Retail Council showing that 9.8 million Australian households shopped online in 2025, with 41% doing so at least fortnightly.

Peter Langley, Regional Vice-President, FedEx Australasia, said shopping habits had changed in ways that affected delivery expectations during the end-of-year rush.

"With online shopping now firmly embedded in Australian consumer behaviour, customers are shopping earlier and expecting greater visibility and convenience in their deliveries," Langley said.

Peak season tools

Alongside the deadlines, FedEx highlighted several services it said would support customers during the peak trading period. These include FedEx Delivery Manager for delivery options and tracking, Picture Proof of Delivery for express residential deliveries, and FedEx Ship Manager for shipment creation and label generation.

It also referred to its FedEx Import Tool, which it described as a cross-border eCommerce shipping service for online retailers.

Retailers typically face a sharp increase in parcel volumes in the run-up to Christmas, particularly as discount events shift more spending online. Carriers often use published cut-off dates to spread volumes across their networks and reduce the risk of late deliveries during the busiest weeks of the year.

Separate deadlines for economy and priority products also reflect different network requirements. Economy services generally need more lead time, especially for cross-border deliveries, while premium services can operate closer to the holiday period.

FedEx said its network and digital services are intended to help customers manage parcels during the seasonal surge.

"Our extensive network, combined with digital tools such as Picture Proof of Delivery, are designed to make shipping as frictionless as possible during this busy period," Langley said. "We are ready to support Australasian retailers in delivering a stellar end-to-end customer experience."
