Workday partnership to boost Hungry Jacks HR operations
Fri, 8th Mar 2024

Hungry Jacks Pty Ltd, Australia's master franchise of the Burger King Corporation, is investing in its personnel by partnering with Workday, Inc., an industry-leading provider of solutions for organisational people management and financial management. In endorsing Workday's Human Capital Management (HCM) module, Hungry Jacks aims to boost its HR operations and further develop its workforce in order to continue its strategic growth across the country.

The fast-food chain, which began with a single store opening in Perth in 1971, now has over 450 branches nationwide and more than 22,000 employees, serving over 2 million customers weekly. In 2023, Hungry Jacks exceeded AUD$2 billion in sales for the first time, as it continues to expand its network of restaurants and augment its product and service offerings.

Keeping pace with this expansion, Hungry Jacks is integrating Workday HCM to streamline recruitment, retention, and people management across the entire organisation. The new system will provide a single source of truth for employee data and offer real-time insights, supporting the nurture and development of its workforce at this crucial time of business acceleration.

The Workday platform will enable Hungry Jacks to take several significant steps forward in HR management, enhancing operations on various fronts. By using a single system to recruit, the company can create a more seamless experience—from the application process through to in-job training—speeding up new employee onboarding. The platform's mobile-enabled applications will also allow Hungry Jacks to gather real-time, actionable data and respond to feedback more swiftly, improving the employee experience.

Furthermore, the system will better equip the people & culture team, as it combines hiring, and people management into a single system. This integrated platform will support future expansion while optimising resources and reducing manual processes. Automated paperwork will save time for staff both in-restaurant and at head office, simultaneously improving accuracy. Through the Workday Skills Cloud, underpinned by artificial intelligence, Hungry Jacks will gain visibility into employees' talents, skills, and aspirations, guiding their professional development within the company.

Jenny McKie, Chief People Officer (CPO) at Hungry Jacks, said, "At Hungry Jack's, we are all about 'Unleashing People Power', so we are very excited to partner with Workday to enable visibility and agility of a more dynamic talent, workforce and organisational structure to support our future growth." She continued, "Having a modern cloud-based HCM system will elevate the candidate experience during the recruiting process, improve the employee onboarding experience, and enhance employee career journeys."

Jo-Anne Ruhl, Vice President and Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at Workday, reflected, "Having the right tools and systems will allow the team to focus on what they do best and lay the foundation for even greater growth."

Workday's proven success with notable customers such as PUMA underscores its ability to simplify and standardise processes, support agile decision-making, and enhance performance by consolidating all data in one place. Dietmar Knoess, Global Director People & Organisation at PUMA, said, "Workday has fundamentally changed the way we work. We are now faster and more efficient than ever before."
