Square has launched its native Uber Eats integration in Australia, extending the companies' existing partnership into another market.

Australian hospitality operators using Square can now manage Uber Eats and dine-in orders through the same point-of-sale system, removing the need for a separate delivery tablet in venues. Restaurants can also manage menus, modifiers and inventory across channels from a single dashboard.

The rollout adds Australia to a programme already in place in Canada, the UK and the US. It also follows an existing tie-up between Afterpay and the Uber platform in Australia, linking another Block-owned service with Uber's consumer and merchant network.

For restaurants, the main operational change is the consolidation of order management into one interface. Venues taking orders in-house and through Uber Eats can view activity within Square's point-of-sale environment rather than switching between systems during service.

That may address a common complaint in hospitality kitchens, where separate tablets for different delivery platforms can add complexity during busy periods. Routing Uber Eats orders through Square cuts one device from the counter or pass and reduces the number of places staff need to check.

The setup also supports inventory control across sales channels. Menu items and modifiers can be updated in one place rather than adjusted separately for dine-in and delivery, which may help reduce discrepancies when stock changes during the day.

Another feature tied to the integration is access to instant payouts, which may help venues manage cash flow. Fast access to takings has become more important for many hospitality businesses managing labour, supplier and occupancy costs while smoothing trade across quieter and busier periods.

Uber Eats remains a significant route to customers for restaurants seeking online demand without building their own delivery infrastructure. For point-of-sale providers such as Square, tighter links with delivery platforms deepen their role in the daily running of hospitality businesses.

The partnership also shows how software integrations are becoming more central in the competition for restaurant merchants. Rather than asking venues to manage separate systems for payments, orders and delivery, technology groups are increasingly trying to bring those functions into one workflow.

Lucas Groeneveld, Uber Eats managing director, ANZ, said the change would give restaurants another option for handling delivery orders through tools they already use.

"Running a business is incredibly busy, and technology should make things simpler," Groeneveld said. "This integration gives restaurants using Square another way to manage Uber Eats orders within the tools they already use to run their business. Ultimately, it's about giving our partners more choice in how they work with Uber Eats and helping make their day-to-day operations easier."

Square has been building out its hospitality offering as restaurants look for systems that combine payments with front-of-house and back-of-house operations. Native integrations with large delivery platforms can make those systems more attractive to operators that rely on marketplaces for order volume but want tighter control over service flow.

That matters in Australia, where many independent restaurants and multi-site operators use a mix of software tools accumulated over time. Consolidating those functions can simplify staff training and reduce the risk of missed or delayed orders caused by fragmented systems.

Marco Lamantia, executive director, Square Australia, said the company was focused on making daily operations easier for hospitality businesses.

"We are dedicated to finding new ways to support the Australian hospitality industry and help restaurants operate more efficiently. This partnership reflects our shared ambitions to empower businesses with technology that simplifies day-to-day operations, which enables them to focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences," Lamantia said.
