Finalists for 2025 AfricaTech Awards announced

The finalists for the 2025 AfricaTech Awards have been announced, highlighting 45 startups across GreenTech, HealthTech, and E-commerce & FinTech sectors from various African countries.

Viva Technology, in association with its Knowledge Partner, Deloitte, has proclaimed the 45 contenders for the fourth edition of the AfricaTech Awards.

This initiative has been designed to recognise and bolster innovative and impactful startups across Africa. The event aims to celebrate and promote startups that address significant economic, societal, and environmental challenges on the continent, focussing specifically on GreenTech, HealthTech, and E-commerce & FinTech sectors.

The competition received 492 entries, with E-commerce & FinTech accounting for the highest number of submissions at 216, followed by 161 in GreenTech, and 115 in HealthTech. Among the participating countries, Nigeria topped the list with 110 entries, marking a 70% increase compared to the previous year. Kenya maintained its position with 51 applicants, while Tunisia emerged in third place.

Notably, half of the 45 finalist startups were founded or co-founded by women.

The HealthTech sector was particularly prominent in this regard, with 50% of its entries being women-led. "I am proud that this year's AfricaTech Awards has once again attracted so many high-quality entries from across the African continent," noted François Bitouzet, Managing Director of Viva Technology. "This reinforces our approach at VivaTech: to bring together the many voices of tech. And, of course, we are delighted once again to showcase the unique place of Africa in the international atlas of innovation."

The selection criteria for these startups included the positive and concrete impact of their solutions on society or the environment, the quality of their innovation, their development potential across Africa and beyond, and the diversity and expertise of their teams, alongside the viability of their business models.

The winners are set to be revealed at the VivaTech Global Awards Ceremony on 12 June 2025, presided over by Édouard Mendy, who will serve as the patron for the awards for the second consecutive year. Mendy is renowned not only for his achievements in football but also for his commitment to the African tech ecosystem through investments in technology projects across the continent.

The 45 startups advancing to the Africa Tech Awards' final stage include 15 from each category. In E-commerce & FinTech, notable finalists are Kuueza from Ghana, Regxta from Nigeria, and Kamioun from Tunisia. The HealthTech finalists feature Parkers Mobile Clinic, VIEBEG from Rwanda, and MedSol AI Solutions from South Africa. Meanwhile, the GreenTech category includes contenders like CABAX FARMS from Nigeria, GreenMorph Global from Egypt, and Farmer Lifeline from Kenya.

The AfricaTech Awards is part of Viva Technology's broader mission to accelerate innovation by connecting startups, tech leaders, large corporations, and investors. The event is held annually in Paris, making it one of the leading tech and startup events in Europe. This year's exhibition will continue to explore pivotal topics and present new demonstrations, experiences, and launches in a collaborative setting. The ninth edition of VivaTech is scheduled to occur from 11 to 14 June 2025.
