Eric Friedman joins Litera board, strengthening legal tech

Eric Friedman, former Chief Executive of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Litera, a legal technology solutions provider, effective January 2025.

Friedman brings over 30 years of legal leadership to Litera, having had an extensive career at Skadden where he was instrumental in delivering high-quality legal services, nurturing top legal talent, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

"Eric's unparalleled expertise in the legal industry and his remarkable track record of leadership are invaluable resources for our team that will undoubtedly enhance our Board and the products and services we provide our customers," stated Litera CEO Avaneesh Marwaha. "His deep understanding of the legal landscape, commitment to innovation, and dedication to social responsibility align perfectly with Litera's mission to transform the legal experience."

Friedman, who led Skadden from 2009 to 2024, was recognised as one of the most influential law firm leaders by The National Law Journal, while the Financial Times named Skadden the most innovative law firm in North America under his tenure.

Throughout his career, Friedman advised on significant transactions for major corporations, including Citigroup, Nasdaq, and Deutsche Bank AG, earning him accolades from Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, and the NACD Directorship 100.

On joining Litera's board, Friedman commented, "I am honoured to join Litera's Board of Directors at such a pivotal moment in the evolution of legal technology. Friedman's commitment to diversity and social justice is well-documented. In 2024, he established the Eric J. Friedman & Skadden 1L Accelerate Program at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School to support diverse legal talent. He has also worked with the New York State Bar Association's Task Force on Advancing Diversity and was instrumental in the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance.

His contributions have been recognised with numerous awards, including the "Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award" from the New York City Bar Association, the "Pro Bono Champion" award from Pro Bono Partnership, The Legal Aid Society's "Servant of Justice Award," and the AJC's "Learned Hand Award."

Friedman's academic background includes a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a B.B.A. with High Distinction from the University of Michigan. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American Law Institute.
