Dematic launches Connected Workforce Platform for warehouse efficiency
Dematic has introduced a new Connected Workforce Platform (CWP) designed to unify warehouse operations and device management within the supply chain industry.
Platform launch
The CWP is an intelligent and adaptable software system that integrates with existing warehouse systems and devices. Its objective is to enhance operational insight, streamline process management, and address the changing requirements of staff operating on the warehouse floor.
The platform collects data from various warehouse management systems (WMS) and connects it to a suite of workflows including those enabled by mobile devices, voice control, vision technology, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). This consolidation is intended to facilitate greater efficiency, speed up decision-making, and simplify the overall management of warehouse technologies through a single interface for device-driven activities.
Expanding on existing solutions
"CWP is an extension of Dematic's Connected Workforce Solution (CWS)," explains Lee Koutsos, Director Connected Workforce Solutions (CWSTM), ANZ, Dematic. "It's the result of our consultancy-led approach, bringing together insights from working closely with customers to understanding their people, devices and processes and turning that into a flexible, intelligent platform that delivers real value. The platform is designed to build on and enhance CWS, giving businesses the visibility, control and adaptability they need as their operations grow more complex."
Key features
The CWP offers real-time dashboards for visualising and managing essential operational metrics, including pick rates per hour, operator accuracy, congestion points in the warehouse, and live order status updates. The platform also introduces gamification elements aimed at improving staff engagement and boosting the performance of warehouse operators. Supervisors can use the dashboards to spot bottlenecks, adjust workflows, and respond promptly to operational challenges.
According to Koutsos, many existing warehouse management platforms operate at a broad level but often lack the flexibility or responsiveness needed for day-to-day operational adjustments. He stated:
"Rather than adding more layers of technology, the new platform is all about making what you already have work better. Most WMS platforms operate at a high level but lack the flexibility or speed to support day-to-day improvements. CWP bridges that gap by giving teams real-time insight and control without the need for costly customisation."
The system allows for advanced picking methods such as cluster and bulk picking, alongside intelligent consolidation based on the worker's location or specific warehouse zones. It has been designed to be compatible with an extensive range of hardware, including handheld devices, vehicle-mounted terminals, vision glasses, and voice headsets. Dematic provides infrastructure support for this range through their wireless engineering team.
Addressing staffing challenges
CWP also addresses the issue of high staff turnover within the warehouse sector by delivering a user-friendly, data-rich work environment. The platform is intended to speed up the onboarding process and ensure a smoother working experience both for new hires and veteran employees.
"Retention is one of the biggest cost pressures in the industry," Koutsos adds. "With CWP, businesses can onboard faster, manage better, and give their teams tools that genuinely make their work easier."
Operational focus
The development of the CWP draws on Dematic's experience in workforce solutions and operational consultancy, supported by local engineering expertise. The platform is positioned as a direct response to the need for increased warehouse operational transparency, flexible management, and improved staff experiences as supply chain environments grow in complexity.
