Chronos Agency expands to Australia amid ecommerce demand shift

Tue, 23rd Jul 2024

Chronos Agency has expanded its presence in Australia in response to increasing demand for sustainable growth strategies among local ecommerce businesses. The lifecycle marketing agency has appointed Nina Jung as Chief Revenue Officer to lead its Australian operations.

Businesses in the ecommerce sector, facing economic uncertainty, inflation, and a cost-of-living crisis, are shifting their focus from media buying to retention and lifecycle marketing strategies. This shift is aimed at achieving sustainable growth. Chronos Agency, which supports over 400 businesses globally, including 20 per cent from Australia, has seen significant success with early clients such as The Oodie. The company helped increase The Oodie’s email revenue by 87 per cent. Positive word of mouth and a growing awareness of the benefits of retention and lifecycle marketing have led to the organic growth of Chronos’ Australian customer base since 2020.

In the first half of 2024, Chronos reported a 50 per cent growth in new deals created compared to the same period in 2023. The agency’s appointment of Nina Jung as Chief Revenue Officer underscores its commitment to bolstering its Australian presence. Nina brings over 15 years of experience in marketing, growth, and the startup sector, having held senior roles at companies such as MadeComfy, Delivery Hero, and HotelsCombined.com.

Nina Jung commented on the market dynamics driving the shift towards retention marketing. “Acquisition-focused growth is what's prevalent, but forward-thinking marketers are focusing on personalisation and retention to grow revenue,” she said. “With privacy concerns and the shift towards using first-party data, the amalgamation of acquisition and lifecycle marketing is the right way to grow businesses in my view. Chronos Agency ticked a lot of boxes for me—not just in what they do, but also in their global presence, expertise, unparalleled service levels, and incredibly skilled teams driving the machine. I'm excited to join the team and lead the way in supporting Aussie marketers and entrepreneurs in the ecommerce ecosystem, helping them achieve their growth ambitions both nationally and globally.”

The expansion comes as Australian businesses seek more cost-effective customer retention and conversion strategies. One notable success story involves Chronos Agency’s work with Australian Furniture Warehouse. The agency's retention marketing strategies helped the company grow profits by nearly six-fold year-on-year and find new revenue opportunities. By targeting existing customers with email campaigns, Chronos contributed to 11 per cent of Australian Furniture Warehouse’s overall business revenue. In some instances, a single email generated up to AUD $8,000 in revenue. Currently, email marketing accounts for 15 per cent of the company's revenue.

Joshua Chin, Co-Founder and CEO of Chronos Agency, emphasised the importance of combining global best practices with local market knowledge. “By integrating global best practices with deep local market knowledge, we provide Australian companies the tools to not only thrive domestically but also successfully venture into international markets. The opportunity to help Australian businesses go global aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver tailored lifecycle marketing services that drive growth, engagement, and profitability across diverse platforms and regions,” Chin stated.

Chronos Agency’s remote-first approach enables it to hire talent without geographic limitations. This approach allows local and international teams to collaborate on the same projects, benefiting clients with higher service levels and a diversity of experiences. Additionally, Chronos is one of six Klaviyo Elite Master Partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
