Binance unveils fan-designed F1 helmet mural in Melbourne

Today

Binance has revealed a fan-designed race helmet for F1 driver Pierre Gasly, featured in a mural crafted by street artist Matt Adnate in Melbourne.

As a part of Binance's collaboration with the F1 team BWT Alpine, the helmet was chosen from over 500 entries in a global design competition.

The design prominently displays Australia's green and gold colours, includes symbols like the kangaroo and emu, and pays homage to the renowned local race track.

The mural, located on La Trobe Street, measures 5x2 metres and showcases the design against the backdrop of Melbourne's skyline. It features local elements including an eagle, native to Victoria, symbolising the qualities associated with racing such as speed and precision.

The artwork is enriched with key features of the helmet design alongside a portrait of Pierre Gasly, reflecting the personal aspect of the sport.

This is further enhanced by an interactive augmented reality (AR) experience linked to the mural, accessible globally via a QR code.

Matt Adnate expressed the significance of incorporating AR into the piece: "Bringing my artwork into an augmented reality experience adds an entirely new dimension to the piece. My murals are about connection and storytelling, and with AR, viewers can step deeper into that world. Seeing the helmet emerge from a glowing portal, surrounded by the energy of the track, brings the artwork to life in a way that mirrors the speed and intensity of the race. It's an exciting fusion of art and technology that pushes creative boundaries," shares Matt.

The contest collected entries from more than 75 countries, with the ultimate design selected by a panel including Gasly and his team. Post-race, Gasly's helmet is set to be auctioned, with the funds aiding CROW Youth Boxing, a cause important to Adnate which supports First Nations youth in Australia.

Pierre Gasly commented on the artistic unveiling: "The mural brings the winning helmet design to life in a bold, dynamic way."

"The contest showcased the passion and creativity of fans worldwide, and it's incredible to see their vision come to life. Binance is continuing to bring fans closer to the sport, and I can't wait to wear this design on track in Melbourne."

Sarah Dale, Binance Global Head of Partnerships, spoke on the initiative's larger impact: "Building on the success of the 2023 campaign, the incredible global engagement in the second edition of the Pierre Gasly Helmet Design Contest highlights the strength of our partnership with Pierre and BWT Alpine F1 and the energetic blend of the crypto and F1 communities."

"This year, the winning design comes to life through a striking mural and immersive AR experience, bringing fans closer to the action. We're excited to keep pushing boundaries and delivering unique, engaging experiences worldwide."
