Australians favour personalised gifts for festive season

Today

Research by VistaPrint has highlighted the increasing trend toward personalised gift-giving in Australia, especially as the holiday season approaches.

The research reveals that 81% of Australians feel some level of stress when selecting the perfect gift. However, 70% believe that the experience is made more enjoyable through Designing Your Own Gifting (DYOG), indicating a growing preference for personalised gifts that carry meaning and strengthen connections.

VistaPrint's findings show that nearly half of Australian gift-givers plan to give personalised items either more or the same as in the previous year. The trend reflects a desire to create unique, meaningful gifts, with participants expressing a strong inclination towards designs inspired by nature, minimalism, modern aesthetics, and subtle or refined colour palettes.

In terms of design preferences, the survey indicates that Australians often draw inspiration from personal interests and hobbies, with 53% of respondents valuing this approach. Social media and online shopping platforms also serve as significant sources of inspiration, used by 42% and 48% of Australian gift-givers, respectively.

The focus on personalisation is further emphasised by 66% of gift-givers, who highlight the importance of adding a personal touch. About 57% aim to provide gifts that are unique and meaningful, while 41% wish to create lasting memories through their gifts.

"As the festive season approaches, it is clear that gift personalisation is a rising trend and will feature in many Australian households this festive season," said Marcus Marchant, CEO of VistaPrint Australia. "Our recent data shows consumers perceive personalised gifts as not only carrying more meaning, but also get the creative juices flowing. We have so much creative talent in Australia and I am sure people will make some stunning creations for their loved ones this Christmas."

The research also sheds light on colour preferences, with blue being the overwhelming favourite for personalised gifts at 47% preference. Other popular colours include pink, red, black, green, and white, each garnering a preference of around 25%. Yellow and grey were the least preferred, with 15% and 11%, respectively.

VistaPrint has tapped into this trend by launching a range of customisable products through its Christmas Shop. The offerings include homewares like personalised mugs and cushions, stationery, photo books, and canvas prints, allowing consumers to either align with trending designs or create something unique.

The top items on Australians' wish lists this year reflect these preferences, with homewares (39%), stationery (38%), photo books (34%), and canvas prints (27%) being highly sought after. The product range enables Australians to infuse a personal touch into their gifts, enhancing the spirit of DYOG this holiday season.
