Anthropic launches Claude 3.5 Sonnet on AWS Bedrock

Fri, 14th Feb 2025

Anthropic's upgraded Claude 3.5 Sonnet model has been made available on Amazon Bedrock in the AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region.

The model is expected to support numerous organisations, including Commonwealth Bank, nib Group, One New Zealand, University of Melbourne, and Deloitte Australia, in enhancing their capabilities to test, build, and deploy scalable generative AI applications. This will be achieved while ensuring that they maintain operational sovereignty and adhere to local regulations.

One of the notable features of the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model is its advanced coding capabilities. It offers strong performance in planning and solving complex coding tasks, such as code migrations, code fixes, and translations. The model also demonstrates improved understanding of context by blending strong comprehension, advanced reasoning, and synthesis to provide rapid response times and human-like interactions across various applications like content generation, document Q&A, and customer service.

The model has shown proficiency in agentic tasks and tool use, excelling in instruction following, tool selection, error correction, and advanced reasoning for workflows that require the use of tools. A public beta has introduced an experimental computer use capability, allowing Claude 3.5 Sonnet to generate computer actions such as keystrokes and mouse clicks to perform tasks using user interfaces that may require numerous steps.

Andrew McMullan, Chief Data & Analytics Officer at Commonwealth Bank, remarked, "Deploying Claude 3.5 Sonnet will allow us to expand our AI capabilities rapidly, facilitating enhancements in our customer service and operational efficiency within a compliant framework."

Mat Finch, Head of Data & AI at nib Group, commented, "In today's digital-first world, generative AI provides us a massive leap forward in transforming how we engage with and support our customers. Claude 3.5 Sonnet's capabilities will bring added value to our operations."

Chris Fletcher, Chief Consumer & Business Officer at One New Zealand, stated, "The Claude 3.5 Sonnet model represents the next stage in AI's development, and we are thrilled to leverage its potential to drive improvements across our service delivery."

Allister Payne, Innovation Lead at the University of Melbourne, highlighted, "We are eager to adopt Claude 3.5 Sonnet as an educational tool, anticipating significant advancements in the ways our students and faculty interact with and harness AI."

Kale Temple, Partner in AI & Data at Deloitte Australia, expressed, "The ability to utilise Claude 3.5 Sonnet's advanced reasoning and natural language processing will be instrumental in steering our AI-driven projects towards successful implementation and scaling."

Nam Je Cho, Director of Solutions Architecture at AWS Australia and New Zealand, noted, "The availability of Claude 3.5 Sonnet on Amazon Bedrock empowers our customers to accelerate their AI strategies and drive innovative solutions tailored to their needs."
