Indeed launches job search app in ChatGPT in Australia

Tue, 28th Apr 2026 (Today)

Indeed has launched its Indeed App in ChatGPT in Australia, extending a rollout that now covers more than 50 countries.

Job seekers can start a search from the ChatGPT apps menu or by using @Indeed in a prompt. The service gives users access to Indeed job listings within ChatGPT and can draw on an attached Indeed profile to tailor recommendations to saved preferences, qualifications and work history.

Indeed's website and mobile app remain the main places for users to complete applications, schedule interviews and communicate with employers. When a user chooses to apply for a role, the ChatGPT app directs them to Indeed's own platforms to finish the process.

How it works

Users can search in natural language for roles that match specific requirements, such as remote work or a particular skill set. Alongside listings, the app can also return company overviews and employee ratings, giving candidates more background on employers during the search process.

The expansion into Australia comes as recruitment groups test how generative AI tools can be used earlier in the hiring journey, particularly when candidates are exploring options rather than submitting applications. By placing job discovery inside ChatGPT, Indeed is adding another route into its marketplace as conversational AI services become a more common starting point for online searches.

Indeed says it has more than 645 million job seeker profiles on its platform and connects those users with 3.3 million employers across more than 60 countries. It also analyses more than 140 million daily hiring signals, qualifications and preferences as part of its matching systems.

That data footprint is central to Indeed's pitch that specialist recruitment platforms still play a distinct role as general-purpose AI assistants begin surfacing job results. Its matching technology has been developed over more than two decades and is designed to improve the relevance and accuracy of results for both candidates and employers.

Wider collaboration

The Australian launch forms part of Indeed's broader work with OpenAI. Earlier this year, Indeed introduced the Indeed App in ChatGPT in the US and is now widening access to additional markets.

The development also reflects a broader shift in online recruitment, as platforms try to lower the friction between initial interest and a formal application. In this case, the chat interface is being used to turn a general query about career options into a more directed search linked to a user's existing Indeed profile.

Indeed is owned by Recruit Holdings and operates alongside platforms including Glassdoor and Indeed Flex. The group positions those services across job discovery, company research and flexible work, giving it broader reach across different parts of the labour market.

Commenting on the launch, Sol Garger, VP of Product at Indeed, said: "Career inspiration often strikes in unexpected places. Integrating Indeed's vast hiring marketplace and advanced matching with ChatGPT helps job seekers turn those moments into action, while giving employers new ways to connect with talent that moves their business forward."
