Appian launches Connected Claims 2.0 to transform insurance

Wed, 4th Jun 2025

Appian has announced the launch of Connected Claims 2.0, an AI-powered solution designed to provide a unified workflow for insurance claims management.

Connected Claims 2.0 utilises Appian's Case Management Studio, AI agents, and data fabric to offer automated and data-driven processes for insurers. The platform is structured to address the increasing demands in insurance claims processing, which, according to industry estimates, could reach USD $638.3 billion globally by 2032.

The new release aims to support insurance companies with a unified claims workflow that accelerates processing times, enhances fraud detection, addresses inconsistencies in claims handling, improves data management, and boosts customer satisfaction. Key features include customisable workflows, real-time data access, AI-powered data insights, and automated regulatory compliance management, all presented via a single-pane interface.

The Connected Claims solution is being promoted for its ability to assist claims adjusters by automating tasks traditionally requiring significant manual intervention. Incorporating capabilities such as data classification, document summarisation, contextual chat, and recommendations for next-best actions, the system leverages artificial intelligence to speed up decision-making and handling of claims.

Appian's update includes the introduction of the Appian AI Document Center, which allows users to train models that extract information from unstructured documents. This function is intended to enable faster document intake, improve data accuracy, and streamline follow-on tasks such as fraud detection and triage. Over time, users may experience increased rates of straight-through processing, enabling claims experts to focus on complex cases and reducing the need for manual work.

The Connected Claims platform is currently used by companies such as Aon, Canada Life, and Aviva. Appian has also been recognised by Everest Group as a Leader in its AI-enabled Claims Management Systems for Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance – Products PEAK Matrix Assessment 2025. Everest Group's assessment evaluated providers on factors like technology capabilities, vision, customer engagement, deployment flexibility, support, and overall value.

Aurindum Mukherjee, Practice Director at Everest Group, commented on Appian's performance: "Appian's Connected Claims solution, built on its low-code platform, combines AI-driven document processing, seamless third-party integrations, and configurable accelerators to deliver rapid time-to-value for P&C insurers. Strong integration support across payment, risk, and fraud systems, coupled with proven success driving accelerated business value for insurers and high client satisfaction for implementation and support, underpins Appian's position as a Leader in Everest Group's AI-enabled Claims Management Systems PEAK Matrix Assessment 2025."

Jake Sloan, Global Vice President of Insurance at Appian, explained the rationale for the new launch. "We are launching Appian Connected Claims 2.0 to meet the urgent need for speed and early value realisation as the insurance industry tackles complexity. Our solution drives digital-first claims innovation, aligning with core admin cloud modernisation for early value realisation. It's configurable, rapidly deployable, and leverages the latest powerful AI in Process to accelerate cycles, combat fraud, and personalise customer experiences. Connected Claims 2.0 empowers insurers to transform operations, balancing efficiency and accuracy with superior customer satisfaction, truly leading the evolution of claims management."
